Eighteen years engineering enterprise retail technology — POS platforms, SQL Server, ASP.NET applications, and the in-store software that keeps a 400-register operation running. Lately, leaning hard into AI-assisted development.

The work behind the work.

I work at the intersection of point-of-sale systems, SQL Server engineering, and the day-to-day technical glue that keeps an enterprise retail operation running. For the last eighteen years that's been at Duty Free Americas, where I'm the gatekeeper for POS change control and business-rule governance across 400+ registers and 200+ SQL servers running Oracle Xstore.

I'm probably most proud of POS Plus Platform — a suite of 30+ custom in-store applications I built and maintain, running 24/7 across all locations to extend Xstore functionality where the platform stops. Beyond that, my day looks like SQL schema work, ASP.NET application development, ERP integrations with Oracle Retek Resa and SIM, BI/SSRS reporting, and the occasional payment-hardware integration.

Lately I've leaned hard into AI-assisted development — Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Ollama for local models. The honest version of that story isn't "AI replaces engineers"; it's that I can now ship internal tools, automate documentation, and shorten time-to-resolution on complex incidents at a rate that wasn't possible two years ago.

I'm a calm problem-solver who likes owning things end-to-end — from debugging a register at the script level to architecting a new integration. Bilingual (English / Spanish). Based in Hialeah.

  • Own POS change control and business rules across 400+ registers and 200+ SQL servers — including a rule database of ~5,000 covering promotions, discounts, tenders, and store behaviors.
  • Architect of POS Plus Platform — a suite of 30+ custom applications running 24/7 across all retail locations, extending Xstore functionality where the platform stops short.
  • Implemented and maintain Oracle Xstore, Xcenter, and Xoffice, integrated with ERP systems (Oracle Retek Resa, SIM) for accurate end-to-end transaction flow.
  • Designed and maintain SQL Server schemas across 200+ store servers — table design, stored procedures, performance tuning, and data-integrity controls.
  • Built ASP.NET enterprise applications: full employee management, A/R customer management with KYC, and store-attribute integration (taxes, receipt header/footer customization) — all generating flat-file outputs for store deployment.
  • Delivered enterprise initiatives: PCI compliance, EMV / contactless certifications, Dynamic Currency Conversion, loyalty integration, first-gen tablet POS, and customer self-checkout.
  • Primary Tier-2 escalation point for complex POS, network, and database incidents; authors SOPs, documentation, and training materials.

Independent E-commerce Business
  • Operate a Shopify storefront with Printify integration for end-to-end print-on-demand fulfillment — theme customization (Horizon), product catalog, and order operations.
  • Built custom internal tools to streamline content ops: a Metricool-compatible CSV export for multi-platform video scheduling, a brand-voice-driven social post generator across five platforms, and a Shopify-aware post generator.
  • Manage multi-platform social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest) via Metricool, Postiz, and Post Studio.
  • Produce graphics, product art, and promotional content with Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator, Canva, and Leonardo.ai.

POS Plus Platform.

POS Plus Platform is the suite of 30+ custom in-store applications I architected and have maintained for years, running 24/7 across every Duty Free Americas retail location. It exists because off-the-shelf POS — even something as substantial as Oracle Xstore — can't anticipate every operational reality.

When the platform falls short of what stores actually need, I build the piece that closes the gap. Then I keep it running.

The result is a layered ecosystem that sits next to Xstore — extending its functionality, monitoring its health, automating its housekeeping, and giving store associates and IT the tools off-the-shelf software didn't ship with.

30+
Production applications running 24/7 across every retail location.
Coverage All stores · 400+ registers
Uptime 24/7 production
Stack .NET · C# / VB.NET · SQL Server
Maintenance 100% mine
⊹ 01

Operational Monitoring

Continuous visibility into the health of registers, services, and back-of-house systems — catching issues before stores feel them.

Example apps Register heartbeat · transaction-flow checks · service watchdogs
⊹ 02

Maintenance Automation

Scheduled and on-demand routines that handle the unglamorous work that has to happen between transactions — every night, every day, every store.

Example apps Log rotation · DB cleanup · cache sync · end-of-day jobs
⊹ 03

Register-Level Utilities

Tools store associates and managers use directly — small, focused, and built for the specific friction the standard POS interface leaves behind.

Example apps Setup utilities · diagnostic launchers · operator helpers
⊹ 04

Data Integration

Connectors and pipelines that move transactional and reference data between Xstore, ERP (Retek Resa / SIM), and downstream systems — keeping data clean and synchronized.

Example apps ERP transformation tools · flat-file deployers · reconciliation
⊹ 05

Configuration Management

Per-store and per-register configuration — taxes, parameters, business rules, receipt formatting — managed centrally and deployed reliably.

Example apps Store-attribute integration · receipt customization · parameter sync
⊹ 06

Reporting & Visibility

Custom dashboards and reports — built where standard Xstore reporting doesn't cover the question leadership or operations actually need answered.

Example apps Exception reports · KPI dashboards · audit trails
§ 04

Other things I've shipped.

What I'm into right now.

Building
AI-assisted internal tooling
Prototyping React-based generators that compress repetitive Xstore configuration work — DataLoader files, macro scripts, and store-deployment artifacts — from hours of manual work into minutes.
Exploring
Local LLMs with Ollama
Running open-weight models locally for tasks where I don't want data leaving the network. Comparing throughput, quality, and where local models genuinely replace cloud APIs.
Sharpening
Solutions architecture chops
Studying how the AI tooling layer reshapes traditional retail IT — from how POS systems should expose data to how teams should organize around model-assisted workflows.
