Eighteen years engineering enterprise retail technology — POS platforms, SQL Server, ASP.NET applications, and the in-store software that keeps a 400-register operation running. Lately, leaning hard into AI-assisted development.
I work at the intersection of point-of-sale systems, SQL Server engineering, and the day-to-day technical glue that keeps an enterprise retail operation running. For the last eighteen years that's been at Duty Free Americas, where I'm the gatekeeper for POS change control and business-rule governance across 400+ registers and 200+ SQL servers running Oracle Xstore.
I'm probably most proud of POS Plus Platform — a suite of 30+ custom in-store applications I built and maintain, running 24/7 across all locations to extend Xstore functionality where the platform stops. Beyond that, my day looks like SQL schema work, ASP.NET application development, ERP integrations with Oracle Retek Resa and SIM, BI/SSRS reporting, and the occasional payment-hardware integration.
Lately I've leaned hard into AI-assisted development — Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Ollama for local models. The honest version of that story isn't "AI replaces engineers"; it's that I can now ship internal tools, automate documentation, and shorten time-to-resolution on complex incidents at a rate that wasn't possible two years ago.
I'm a calm problem-solver who likes owning things end-to-end — from debugging a register at the script level to architecting a new integration. Bilingual (English / Spanish). Based in Hialeah.
POS Plus Platform is the suite of 30+ custom in-store applications I architected and have maintained for years, running 24/7 across every Duty Free Americas retail location. It exists because off-the-shelf POS — even something as substantial as Oracle Xstore — can't anticipate every operational reality.
When the platform falls short of what stores actually need, I build the piece that closes the gap. Then I keep it running.
The result is a layered ecosystem that sits next to Xstore — extending its functionality, monitoring its health, automating its housekeeping, and giving store associates and IT the tools off-the-shelf software didn't ship with.
Continuous visibility into the health of registers, services, and back-of-house systems — catching issues before stores feel them.
Scheduled and on-demand routines that handle the unglamorous work that has to happen between transactions — every night, every day, every store.
Tools store associates and managers use directly — small, focused, and built for the specific friction the standard POS interface leaves behind.
Connectors and pipelines that move transactional and reference data between Xstore, ERP (Retek Resa / SIM), and downstream systems — keeping data clean and synchronized.
Per-store and per-register configuration — taxes, parameters, business rules, receipt formatting — managed centrally and deployed reliably.
Custom dashboards and reports — built where standard Xstore reporting doesn't cover the question leadership or operations actually need answered.
Full ASP.NET application for employee identity and access, integrated with Xstore and Xoffice. Produces formatted flat-file outputs for downstream store deployment.
Accounts-receivable customer management with Know-Your-Customer workflows for Xstore. Centralized customer onboarding and compliance with formatted flat-file export.
Per-store configuration management — tax setup, receipt header/footer customization, and operational attributes — pushed to stores as deployable flat files.
Day-to-day use of Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Ollama (local models) to accelerate code generation, automate technical documentation, and reduce time-to-resolution on complex incidents.
Integration and maintenance of Verifone pinpads (with MX downloader), Zebra scanners, and tablet POS hardware across the register fleet. EMV and contactless certifications delivered.
Custom BI dashboards and SQL Server Reporting Services reports surfacing real-time visibility into sales, exceptions, KPIs, and system health for operations and leadership.
Unscripted tech exploration covering AI, emerging technologies, and educational tutorials. Hands-on experimentation, plain-English explanations.
